Law in America Honors students from Round Lake High School recently visited the County Clerk’s office and the courts. At the Clerk’s office, they learned about the Illinois laws that affect our activities—property tax extensions, vital records, and elections. Property tax disbursement was explained in a pie chart – pizza pie, that is. And, Jaguar was voted the “Best Automobile” in their mock election.

2015 Property tax bills were mailed this week and are due in two equal installments -- June 2 and Sept. 2. Visit
the Treasurer’s
Office website to get answers to some frequently asked questions and
for information on how to make a payment.
Keep in mind, while you send your
payment to Lake County, the County only keeps a small portion (about 7%), and
the rest is distributed to many other taxing districts. Visit
Lake County’s budget page to see what Lake County does with its
portion.

On April 19, Clerk Wyckoff attended a meeting of the Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders in Springfield, Illinois, where a portion of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of the recently completed March Primary Election. County Clerks from all over the state exchanged ideas on streamlining Election Day registration; encouraging early and mail voting; improving call centers to assist election workers; and ensuring adequate resources for an anticipated high turnout at the November General Election. Clerks heard reports on proposed legislation that could further impact election procedures. Attendees also had the opportunity to discuss property tax and vital records provisions.

The origin of this U.S. federal holiday dates back to the American Civil War when soldiers’ graves were decorated with flowers on Decoration Day. Today, we celebrate Memorial Day as the end of the school year and the beginning of summer. But most importantly, it is the day to honor all U.S. military service men and women who unselfishly served our country and gave so much to preserve our freedoms.
Clerk's holiday hours: Friday, May 27 8:30 am to 5 pm
Monday, May 30 Closed
Tuesday, June 1 8:30 am to 5 pm
