Please join us for a community meeting to hear about and discuss the Illinois Department of Natural Resources' (IDNR) interest in future use of the Harley Clarke Mansion. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 15 at 7 p.m. in the Parasol Room of the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

The City of Evanston has been looking into the future use of the Harley Clarke Mansion for the past several years. In October 2013, the IDNR expressed formal interest in a long-term lease for the building. The building would be used by IDNR to house its Coastal Management Program and provide space for other departmental uses. The community meeting will feature a presentation by IDNR staff on its operations, provide further details on their proposed use of the building and answer questions from the community.

There is still no official news on a successor grocer for the now-empty store at 2748 Green Bay Road. City staff will report all developments that arise as they remain in close contact with the property owner and prospective retailers.

In the meantime, please visit the Evanston's Dominick's Community Facebook page, created and populated with photos by Evanston resident Lynn Trautmann. Thank you to Lynn, who generously gave her time and talent to commemorate the remarkable people at both of the Evanston Dominick's stores, previously located at Evanston Plaza and on Green Bay Road. 

Thank you to everyone who attended the customer's receptions held at both stores and who contributed food and drink to serve the store employees. Special thanks to customers Pat Maunsell, Dickelle Fonda and Asa Gezelius, who organized the events at the stores.Thanks to Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and Alderman Peter Braithwaite, who prepared blanket letters of recommendation and reference for the employees. Thank you to the store managers who forgave the disruption to store operations for the receptions. Mostly, thank you to the Dominick's employees for their kind service to this community.

And forget Indy! You don't have to journey far to watch great tourneys when Northwestern University hosts Big Ten Tournaments for women's tennis in April and women's softball in May. We'll have great Big Ten competitions right here in Evanston.  

Northwestern University will also host the American Lacrosse Conference tournament in May, which will be the last time our University women's lacrosse team competes in the ALC before Northwestern's conference tournaments move to the Big Ten.
