The Evanston Public Library (EPL) is hosting free educational programs to celebrate El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) on Monday, April 30, 2012, in the morning and after school hours at both the Main Library (1703 Orrington Avenue) and the North Branch Library (2026 Central Street). This daylong celebration supports the library’s family literacy initiative and culminates the daily commitment to link children and books.

The celebration will kick-off at the Main Library at 9:00 a.m. with Mayor Tisdahl reading a Proclamation in observance of this day. Programs will feature EPL staff and volunteers who will read books in English and Spanish, sing songs, and make crafts. Studies show that children learn through exploration and being exposed to different languages helps broaden their skills to learn languages later in life.

EPL Library Director Karen Danczak Lyons said, “We want all families to enjoy the literary heritage of the world’s great cultures through the books and stories available at the library.”

There will be two programs at the Main Library from 9:30-10 a.m. and 6:30-7:15 p.m. and two programs at the North Branch from 10:15-10:55 a.m. and 6:30-7:15 p.m.

La biblioteca de Evanston (EPL) celebra El día de los niños/El día de los libros con programas educativos y gratuitos. El lunes abril 30, 2012 durante la mañana y después de la escuela en ambas bibliotecas: (Main Library (1703 Orrington Avenue) y en el North Branch Library (2026 Central Street). Esta celebración que dura todo el día apoya la iniciativa de literatura familiar de la biblioteca y culmina la dedicación diaria de conectar a los niños con los libros.

Esta celebración comenzará en la biblioteca principal a las 9 a.m. con la alcaldesa Tisdahl quien leerá una proclamación con motivo de este día. Las actividades incluirán personal de EPL y voluntarios quien leerán libros en inglés y español, cantarán canciones y harán manualidades. Hay estudios que muestran que los niños que aprenden a través de la exploración y están expuestos a diferente idiomas, les ayuda a ampliar sus habilidades para aprender idiomas más a delante en la vida.

La directora de EPL Karen Danczak Lyons dice: “Queremos que las familias disfruten de la herencia literaria de las grandes culturas del mundo atraves de libros e historias que están disponibles en la biblioteca.”

Habrá dos programas en la biblioteca principal desde las 9:30-10:00 y a las 6:30-7:15pm, y dos programas en la sede norte desde las 10:15-10:55 a.m. y a las 6:30-7:15 p.m.
