 Tomorrow is the 53rd anniversary of the very first moon walk! On July 20, 1969, Americans astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the surface of the Moon. So President Ronald Reagan made July 20 National Space Exploration Day in 1984 to celebrate our country's past achievements and inspire more kids to go into the space sciences! MEET: For kids K-5 and up, get introduced to the Latino/Latinx people that have made significant contributions to astronomy in the Adler Planetarium's online exhibit, Raíces Bajo Las Estrellas: Rooted Under the Stars.

Write a Letter Challenge! One of the squares on the READ-O bingo sheet reads, "Write a letter and mail it to someone." To help you with this one, we've got:

 What is Earth Overshoot Day? It is the day of the year by which we've used up all of earth's resources for the year and we begin borrowing from the future to power our world and feed ourselves. This is a sobering event rather than a holiday. However, the Earth Overshoot Day website has a fantastic STEM resource that older elementary school students as well as teens and adults can use that shows how many days we could move Earth Overshoot Day by making some changes! Learn quickly how to have a big impact on helping the earth.

STEM Activity! One way to help kids learn about the earth is to build a terrarium. Terrariums hold in warmth just like Earth's atmosphere. NASA Climate Kids shows how!
 Muharram is the first month (July 30-August 27 this year) of the Islamic year. The first day of Muharram is a little like our New Year's Day. The tenth day of the month, August 8 this year, is called the Day of Ashura, a day of mourning for the prophet's grandson for some Muslims and a day of fasting in thanksgiving for the Prophet Musa (Moses) for others. Muharram means forbidden; conflict and fighting are forbidden because this is a month of peace. May it be so for us all.
