Instead of BINGO, we're doing READ-O this summer. Get your "Read-o" card and complete five activities in a row (down, across, or diagonal). Bring it back to pick from our awesome selection of fun activity kits and get entered into our Grand Prize Drawing! Keep completing activities for more Grand Prize chances!
The Read-o card includes scratch-able squares listing reading and writing activities for your summer: read a book that features a dragon; write your own poem; make a puppet to act out a story; make up an alternate ending to a book you love; create a comic strip showing "a day in your life," read a nonfiction book with photographs and much more!
Evanston Public Library Staff will also be visiting the parks and beaches all summer long starting June 13, so you can sign up at these locations as well! More details about our great summer Beyond the Beaten Path are coming soon!
District 65 has a fabulous summer reading list that also will help you complete some of the squares on the EPL's bingo card! It's called Read Beyond Borders and helps kids "travel" through reading to Europe, Australia, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia this summer as well as North and South America.
Another great way to 'travel' is through experiencing nations' cuisines and cultural experiences. When we feature an area like the the Middle East or Africa in upcoming summer newsletters, we'll also recommend great Evanston restaurants, gardens, and museums to support the learning.
Welcome to Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! To celebrate, we're sharing booklists centering Asian American and Pacific Islander characters and countries:

Also, we have a number of wonderful places in Evanston to buy Jamaican food. Scroll past the "sponsored results" to get to the Evanston restaurants.
Evanston's sister city is Belize City! Belize, with a Caribbean coast, is a member of CARICOM, the Caribbean’s equivalent of the European Union. Cool, huh?
