Settle in this winter with a good book -- and hear about it from the authors themselves. The Evanston Public Library has partnered with Illinois Libraries Present to bring high-quality discussions with best-selling authors to our patrons.
On Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m., best-selling author Silvia Moreno-Garcia discusses her newest book, Velvet Was the Night, and her genre-defying mashups of cultural noir and Lovecraftian horror. She will be joined in conversation by author Gus Moreno (This Thing Between Us).
Silvia Moreno-Garcia is the New York Times bestselling author of the critically acclaimed novels Certain Dark Things, Gods of Jade and Shadow and Mexican Gothic, which Vanity Fair called “[An] irresistibly dark feminist reimagining of the Gothic fantasy novel.” Mexican by birth, Canadian by inclination, Silvia has edited several anthologies, received many awards for her novels, and is a columnist for the Washington Post. Learn more about Silvia.

EPL selected as one of the New Faces of Library Makerspaces
Evanston Public Library staff will mentor the growth of new makerspaces across the country
The Evanston Public Library has been named a charter member of the New Faces of Library Makerspaces project, a collaboration to build a diverse collective of library makerspace professionals to share ideas and grow makerspaces across the country.
Makerspaces can take several forms, from dedicated spaces with tools and materials for building and creating, like the EPL’s 3D printer, to community events like Evanston’s annual Cardboard Carnival, a series of challenges to code and construct games. A makerspace can be any space where you work with physical objects to design, construct, and problem solve to make something new.
