It was a year like no other — for the world, for the country, for Evanston, and for the Evanston Public Library too.
This 2020 Annual Report reflects it all: the pandemic response, the call to racial justice, and the many ways we explored the frontiers of what equitable access to resources truly means for Evanstonians. Take a look! (en español)
In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month, enjoy these recommendations of three books by and about AAPI folks.
1. Crying in H Mart: a memoir by Michelle Zauner (print, large type, ebook, eaudiobook): Michelle Zauner's experiences growing up Korean American and the loss of her mother imbue this memoir about family, food, loss, and identity with honesty and humor.
2. Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo (print, ebook): Set in America in 1954 during the Red Scare, Last Night at the Telegraph Club is a gripping story of love between two young girls, Lily Hu and Kathleen Miller, who find sanctuary at a lesbian bar called The Telegraph Club.
3. Interior Chinatown by Charles Lu (print, large print, ebook, eaudiobook): A smart, engaging, powerful book about the literal roles — Generic Asian Man, Pretty Oriental Flower, Kung Fu Guy — of Asian Americans in the narrative of the US.
