Thankful for our Library Family

As the President of the Board of Trustees for the Library, I am pleased to share with you the new Reimagine Campaign, and I ask for your support today.

Like many families, we are thinking about the upcoming holidays and how they will look different this year. Instead of sharing a table with family and friends for this day of gratitude, it’ll just be me, my wife and 4 kids together, and maybe a Zoom call to the grandparents. Traditions that we’ve loved for years will be put away -- for this year at least -- and we’ll make new memories with new traditions. And, above all, we’ll be together as a family.

I am also thinking of how the look and feel of our Library family has changed this year. We have temporarily lost the traditions of taking our kids to storytime, but now have so many different stories to watch on Youtube. We lost the ease of returning books at the Chicago Avenue/Main Street branch, but gained a beautiful new community facility with bilingual programming at the Robert Crown Branch.

Over the past year, we’ve seen new ways the Library can serve. We’ve looked at the world and said, “What can we do to meet the challenges we face today?” Our answer is, we can reimagine. By reimagining how and where to best serve all of Evanston, with special emphasis on who we are not adequately serving now, we ensure that our Library is a vital resource for all.

Now, as we continue to pivot and learn ways to serve better, we need your help. Donations will support the Library’s effort to sustain our work and continue to grow. Examples of our growth today includes expanding diverse authors’ voices and investing in additional computers and WiFi hotspots for loan. Please donate today and make this change possible. Thank you!

Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season,

Shawn Iles, President of the Board of Trustees
