Summer Reading Program registration opens today! Join the thousands of Evanstonians who join in to make Summer Reading part of their summer plans.
How Virtual Summer Reading Works:
- Register at epl.org/summerreading, or by calling 847-448-8600, or through the Readsquared App for Android and iOS mobile devices.
- Log the days in which you read, (or that you read to your child.)
- After 30 days of reading, win a brand new prize book and enter a grand prize drawing*.
- Prizes will be available at the end of the summer. We will contact you when they are available for pick up.(*Must be an Evanston resident to take part in the grand prize drawing.)

Ms. Louise created a terrific LGBTQIA+ Resource List for kids and parents available free from Kanopy, Hoopla and Overdrive. Create your own Pride experience by selecting from this list. We celebrate and enjoy the diverse identities in our community!
Ms. Linda and Ms. Bridget recommend making a Paper Plate rainbow craft or a Rainbow Windsock.
Kids entering 3rd-5th grade in the fall can discuss Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson with Ms. Jessica and Ms. Louise in the next Virtual Graphic Novel Book Club. Registration is required. Saturday, June 13, 1 pm.
Mark your calendars for Drag Queen Storytime with Coco Sho'nell who will be recording a Pride storytime available to watch on the EPL YouTube Storytime Playlist on or after June 27.
Listening to a storytime counts toward Summer Reading goals. Dig in and add to your "days" of reading.
Enjoy Family Storytime and Craft: Bunnies from Ms. Kim with two favorite books and a great bunny hat.
Ms. Leigh reads the classic, Mooncake by Frank Asch. Bear builds a rocket to take him to the moon so he can taste it. Watch for the moon tonight and imagine what it tastes like!
Mr. Brian reads It's A Tiger!, a joyous romp of a book very popular with D65 kindergartners!
Speedy Snail's Quick Ideas for Slowing Down shows how easy it is to create a Cool Down Cave using materials from the recycling bin, plus book and video suggestions about caves and cave construction.
Marilyn Price is a puppeteer who's been presenting stories at North Branch for over 20 years. She tells the story of The Little Engine That Could.
J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, is releasing chapters of the children's book she wrote for her two younger kids online. Kids are invited to submit illustrations that may be published when The Ickabog is printed later this year. Start reading the chapters aloud together!
Academy Award Winning New Zealand film maker Taika Waititi is reading James and the Giant Peach in 10 episodes, with help from his acting and celebrity friends. Don't miss this!

District 65, Northwestern University, MetaMedia and EPL together provide Evanston kids in 3rd-5th grade with a challenge every 2 weeks. Submit a challenge and you'll be entered in a prize raffle! The latest challenge, Build a Solar Oven is due on June 3rd. Need some help? Email Tyler from the EPL Loft at tworks@cityofevanston.org. Have older kids? Here's a 6th - 8th grade challenge.

Watch a Falcon Banding!
Virtual Falcon Banding with The Field Museum. Experience a falcon banding! The four peregrine falcons hatched at the Library's nesting site will be banded by Mary Hennen and Josh Engel (pictured) from The Field Museum. Betsy Bird will be your host on Zoom. Please register. Saturday, June 6, 10 am.
Help us name the falcons! Please submit your suggested names and include a reason for each name suggested. Winning names will be assigned at the banding event.
