Arts Council Grants are Suspended
Dear Evanston Arts Council funding applicants:
Given the pressures on the City to fund emergency measures, we regret to inform you that all 2020 Arts Council funding is currently on hold. All grants that have been previously approved will be paid, but no new funding will be considered for the time being.
What does that mean for applicants for funding?
- The application process for Cultural Fund grants for 2020-2021 will be suspended. We regret the time, we know people will have already spent time on these applications, especially when there is currently so much that needs to be done. If and when our budgets are re-instated, we will reopen the process, allowing an appropriate time for applications. We will also re-examine the conditions of the grants and the application process, to best reflect the difficult circumstances we know all our arts community is facing.
- There will be no new applications for Neighborhood Arts Grants until and unless our budgets are re-instated.
What does it mean for current grantees?
- All existing grants will be paid as agreed.
- 2019-2020 Cultural Fund Program grantees have until May 31, 2020 to utilized their grant.
- 2019-2020 Cultural Fund Program grantees must turn in their final report by June 30, 2020.
- We recognize that it has not been possible to deliver the programs in some grant agreements that were planned to take place in recent and future weeks. There will be no holdback or retraction of funds because of this. We fully understand that some costs were already incurred, that revenue has been lost and that unplanned costs have arisen, and trust our agreed grant funds will be put to good use. We simply ask that grantees report in the timeframe of their agreements with us and let us know what could and what could not be done.
We wish all our Evanston arts community well through this very difficult time, and look forward to being able to serve you as usual as soon as possible.
