To reduce the financial impact to residents and businesses during the statewide response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the City of Evanston has announced the elimination of nonpayment penalties and delay of enforcement measures for the next 60 days.
Elimination of nonpayment penalties – The City will eliminate nonpayment penalties for certain bills due to the City between March 16 and April 30 for the next 60 days. This includes:
- Liquor taxes
- Amusement taxes
- Water, sewer and sanitation bills
- Parking and compliance citations
Delayed enforcement – The City will pause the enforcement of certain enforcement measures for 60 days, from March 16 through May 16, including water service shutoffs and vehicle immobilizations.
Business registration – Business registration fees will be waived for the remainder of 2020; however, businesses are still required to register with the City in order to facilitate communication. Registration letters will be mailed early next week.
Liquor sales - Liquor carry-out and delivery is now permitted with food orders from local restaurants.
City staff will continue to monitor resources provided by Federal and State officials in addition to additional local resources. Visit the Health and Human Services Department's COVID-19 webpage for the latest updates.
SBA Update: Disaster Loans
SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza has streamlined the process for states to request SBA disaster assistance, which means businesses will be able to access low-interest disaster loans faster. Learn more about the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, which provides working capital loans to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue. Updates will be provided on when you can begin to apply for a loan. You an also stay informed through the SBA's Twitter.

Stay Calm and Carry Out
On Monday night, March 16, all Illinois restaurants and bars were ordered to close for dining in until the end of March. There are some small ways that those who are able to can help their favorite small businesses stay afloat through the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, such as ordering carry-out and delivery, purchasing gift cards, and contributing to a fundraising campaign.

Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program

Students: there are still jobs!
Although the March 28th job fair has been cancelled, the employment opportunities through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program remain! Students who are interested in job placement through the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program must register to be considered for employment. If students have already registered for the March 28th job fair, they do not have to complete the form again.
To participate in the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program, a youth must be: an Evanston resident (reside in zip codes 60201 or 60202), be currently enrolled in school, be between the ages of 14-18* and must register for the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program.
*For program eligibility, students must be 14 by program start date in June 2020.
