EPL Hosts Reception for VFW Black History Exhibit

VFW exhibit

The Library will host a closing reception in honor of the VFW exhibit of Black Evanstonian war veterans. The exhibit is currently displayed on the library's second floor landing. This exhibit is the first time Evanston has displayed an exhibit featuring Black, local veterans of foreign wars and particularly focuses on the legacy of Tech Sargeant William B. Snell, the first Black Evanstonian to die in North Africa during WWII.

The reception will be on Saturday, February 29, from 4 - 6 pm in Main Library's Community Meeting Room. Anyone is welcome to attend, especially active military personnel or community members interested in Black history and the legacy of VFW Post 7186.

VFW Post 7186 encourages any veterans, of any age or gender, to get involved with their events and organization to learn about what services are available to local veterans. The post was chartered in 1946 and traces its roots back to the Spanish-American War.
