Snow Route Parking Ban, January 19
Snow Emergency, January 20 and 21

Snow Emergency parking and plowing

The City of Evanston has declared an overnight Snow Route Parking Ban affecting main thoroughfares on Saturday, January 19, and a Snow Emergency affecting side streets on Sunday, January 20 and Monday, January 21. Community members are requested to park according to the posted street signs to allow the City to effectively clear the snow.

Snow Route Parking Ban: Saturday night

A Snow Route Parking Ban for main thoroughfares will be in effect from 11 p.m. on Saturday, January 19 until 6 a.m. on Sunday, January 20. Even if plows have been through, snow removal operations may require return visits. Vehicles are subject to ticketing, towing and storage charges.

Snow Emergency: Sunday and Monday

Snow Emergency even/odd parking restrictions for side streets will be in effect on Sunday, January 20 and Monday, January 21, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. No parking is allowed on Sunday, January 20 on the even-numbered side of the street. No parking is allowed on Monday, January 21 on the odd-numbered side of the street.

Streets that are affected during snow emergencies are those with parking on both sides which are not posted as Snow Routes. Most streets with parking on one side only now have permanent “odd date” or “even date” signs that allow them to be plowed during snow emergencies.

Vehicles are subject to ticketing and towing. If towed, cars will be returned to the vicinity from which they were towed.

Snow Shoveling Assistance and Guidelines

Shovel

Need help shoveling snow or want to help your neighbors? The City's Senior & Disabled Persons Snow Shoveling program connects residents with volunteers who are willing to provide snow shoveling services. Click the button below to sign up or call/text 847-448-4311.

Shoveling Guidelines
Property owners are responsible for clearing a path at least 36 inches wide whenever there's an accumulation of four inches of snow or more. If you own a multi-family property, common entrances and sidewalks must remain free of ice and snow following any snow event. Business owners are required to shovel walkways and are encouraged to use salt, sand, or ice melt to keep sidewalks clear for visitors and customers. The City does not clear snow from sidewalks in business districts.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Evanston sidewalks safe and accessible.

Residents' efforts to clear snow at least two feet away from fire hydrants are much appreciated. Ensuring that fire hydrants are visible and accessible from the street can save precious time in an emergency. Thank you for your help and cooperation.
