We encourage you to join us on our journey to make Evanston Public Library an institution that meets the diverse needs and expectations of all Evanston residents.

Programs for Children

Children's programs

Let's Play Grocery: Fall Early Literacy Activity. Parents and caretakers of children from birth through 3 years old are invited to create a brief shopping list and then use it to shop for fruits and vegetables in the library! Stop at the desk for information and supplies. All locations. All month long. 

Purple Crayon Players Storytime and Craft. Northwestern University Theater students will share stories and a fun craft. Stories and craft aimed at 3 - 7 years but younger and older siblings welcome. Friday, October 5, 4 - 5 pm, Children's Room, Main Library

Halloween Movie Fest. Every weekend afternoon in October, stop by to watch a Halloween movie favorite. Check out the full schedule.  Barbara Friedberg Storytelling Room. Main Library. 

Caldecott Club for Grades 1 to 6. Join 2017 Caldecott Award Committee member Mr. Brian and special guests for this fun, 3-session, interactive look at books that might win the 2019 Caldecott Award! Thursdays, 7 pm, beginning October 11. Children's Room, Main Library.  Please register. 

StemEx Family Learning. Get engaged in STEM with your child through expert-led, hands-on learning about  electricity. Wire up a light and fan, then tinker together to create your own alarm buzzer on a small model home! Creating Cityscapes: A Painting and Printmaking Workshop for Kids (Grades K-2). In this fun, one-hour workshop, K - 2 students will create original artwork through painting and basic printmaking techniques. Friday, October 19, 3:30 - 4:30 pm., Barbara Friedberg Storytelling Room. Meals at Home

Meals at Home 50th Anniversary Celebration. Four local bakeries will enter their creations for local celebrity judges to review.  Cakes will be raffled after judging! All welcome. Free cake and treats. Saturday, October 6, 11 am - 1 pm, Main Library.
