Attend the Aging Well Conference on Friday

Aging Well Evanston

Celebrate Older Americans Month at the Aging Well Conference on Fri., May 4 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The free, half-day conference for older persons and those who care for them presents an array of educational workshops on topics including health and wellness, safety, nutrition, technology, legal issues, financial planning, and the arts. Admission is free but registration is required.

Attend Diabetic Shoe Clinic May 10

If you are a diabetic, you may be entitled to a pair of therapeutic shoes and three pairs of inserts per calendar year through a Medicare-paid program. On Thurs., May 10, at 10 a.m., Step Lively Foot & Ankle Centers will explain the program and the importance of wearing good shoes. The clinic supplies various shoe styles, in all sizes and widths. Please bring the following:

  • Medicare number
  • Primary doctor’s name and phone number
  • Secondary insurance card (if you have one)

Enjoy a Milwaukee Custard Crawl May 16

Frozen yogurt / custard

On Wed., May 16, visit Milwaukee’s custard stand institutions through a tour dedicated to highlighting Milwaukee as the “custard capital of the world!" We'll start with lunch at a classic Milwaukee diner complete with poodle skirts. Then, we head to the Milwaukee Riverwalk for a photo opportunity. Next, a “custard crawl” with stops at three historic custard stands, a narrated guided city tour, and then a historical tour and shopping in the Village of Greendale.The trip will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The fee is $60 for Levy members and $75 for nonmembers. Improve Wellness with Humor & Improv May 16

On Wed., May 16, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, join us for a morning of highly therapeutic fun! Guest director and facilitator Dionna Griffin-Irons of the legendary Second City Theatre will join the Levy Senior Center for a one-time improv and interactive storytelling workshop. No experience needed.

Enjoy Magic with Greg Whalen May 17

The legendary Greg Whalen returns to the Levy Center on Thurs., May 17 at 1 p.m.! Greg is a full-time professional entertainer with a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Theatre and over 20 years’ experience performing magic and comedy. There is no charge for this program, but pre-registration is requested.


Fran Randall Memorial Concert May 18

Music note


This series spotlights music students from local colleges, universities and high schools. The performers for this concert will be Chicago Recorder Quartet (CRQ), a Chicago-based professional recorder quartet. Its mission: bringing early music to the contemporary world. The program is free and refreshments are provided. The concert begins at 1:30 p.m. on Fri., May 18.


Learn About Healthcare and Retirement May 23

On Wed., May 23, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., financial advisor Ross Krause will visit the Levy Center to discuss Medicare coverage and traditional medical expenses, long-term medical care expense strategies, addressing uncovered expenses, and the potential impact of rising health care costs on your retirement savings. This is a free program but pre-registration is requested. Please stop by the Levy Center front desk or call 847-448-8250.


Tour Symphony of Evanston, Play Bingo May 24

Tour the Symphony of Evanston and play some Bingo on Thurs., May 24, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This program is open to the first 12 registrants. Transportation will be provided by the Levy Senior Center bus. Stop by the Levy Center front desk or call 847-448-8250 to register.

Welcome Amy Kellogg, Recreation Manager

Amy Kellogg


Amy is back with the Levy Senior Center after previously working as a part-time facility supervisor. Amy brings a wealth of professional and volunteer experience. She has been in the field of parks and recreation for more than 15 years, with extensive experience in recreation programs and facility management. Most recently, she was the Senior Program Director at the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago, where she managed the Out of School Department, which provided after-school service at 27 sites. Amy also managed a facility for the Peoria Park District.

Please join the Levy Center in congratulating Levy Senior Center Program Coordinator Leslie Wilson on her upcoming retirement after 27 years of service to the City of Evanston! Leslie's last day will be Fri., May 4.
