EVANSTON POLICE INVESTIGATE TWO VEHICULAR HIJACKINGS

On Thursday, August 25, 2016 at approximately 9:00PM, a 39 year old female Evanston resident was sitting in her vehicle in the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue when she was approached by two male/black subjects one of which brandished a handgun.  The offenders demanded the victims vehicle, a black Mazda CX-9 and also took victims wallet.  The offenders were last seen westbound on Dempster Street in victims vehicle.  The victim was not injured in the incident.

On Friday, August 26, 2016 at approximately 12:08AM, a 36 year old female Evanston resident had just parked her vehicle in the 1700 block of Washington Street, when she was approached by two male/black subjects.  One of the subjects brandished a handgun and demanded victims keys and purse.  The offenders fled in the victims grey Acura.  The victim was not injured in the incident.

Officers responding to the call observed the Mazda from the earlier incident with the Acura following, eastbound on Harvard Terrace from Barton Avenue.  Officers attempted to stop the vehicles, but they fled eastbound.  When the vehicles approached Ridge Avenue, the Mazda continued eastbound and the Acura turned southbound.  Officers pursued both vehicles.

The Mazda crashed into the security gate of a residence in the 200 block of Custer Avenue with the offender fleeing on foot.  The Acura proceeded into Chicago, Illinois with the pursuit being terminated by patrol supervisors a short time later.  The Acura was later located parked and unoccupied in the 1500 block of Jonquil Terrace.  Officers recovered a loaded .38 caliber handgun from inside the Mazda.  Both vehicles were towed to the Evanston Police Department for evidence processing.  A photograph of the recovered firearm is attached to this release for legitimate media publications.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into the incidents and police patrols will be concentrating their efforts on these incidents.  The Evanston Police Department is asking the public to be vigilant about reporting any suspicious activity in their neighborhood.  Anyone with information on the crimes can contact the Evanston Police Detective Division at (847) 866-5040 or utilize Text-A-Tip by texting CRIMES (274637) and putting EPDTIP in the message line followed by the tip.
