Evanston, Illinois -
The severe weather moving through
the Chicagoland area on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 caused a structure fire at
1506 Wesley Avenue, at approximately 8:19 p.m.
A neighbor called the Evanston Dispatch Center to
report seeing lightning strike the house and smoke coming from the roof.
This is a two story frame single-family residence.
First arriving fire companies found smoke coming from
the eaves. The alarm was immediately upgraded to a Code-4 and then to a MABAS
Box Alarm to the first level. Fire companies from 5 departments in Division 3
responded to assist on the scene and also for station coverage.
Suppression companies were able to locate and extinguish
the fire, which had started in the attic area of the residence. The fire
was brought under control and the alarm was struck at 9:41 p.m.
The homeowner arrived on scene during suppression operations
and will be displaced due to fire damage. Assistance from the Red Cross was not
needed.
There were no reports of injuries to Evanston fire
personnel.
