Two Handguns Recovered by Evanston Police Over Weekend

TWO WEAPONS RECOVERED OVER WEEKEND
Two handguns were recovered by the Evanston Police Department over the weekend. The first incident occurred on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at approximately 2:20 AM the police received an anonymous tip of a handgun hidden in the alley near Foster Street and Brown Avenue. Patrol units checked the area and were able to recover a loaded Hopkins and Allen .32 caliber revolver in the alley of the 2000 block of Foster Street. The handgun was inventoried by the officers and will be sent to the crime laboratory for further analysis.
The second incident occurred on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at approximately 11:11 PM in the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue. Officers patrolling the area located an occupied parked vehicle that had an odor of cannabis emanating from inside. Upon approaching the vehicle, they observed a male subject, now identified as Jon Vansach sitting in the drivers seat with a clear plastic baggie containing suspect cannabis on his lap. A further check of the vehicle revealed a loaded Lorcin 9mm handgun in the glove compartment as well as miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. Vansach was taken into custody and charged with Felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felony Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, Misdemeanor Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor Unlawful Use of Weapon/Ammunition and Misdemeanor No Valid Firearm Owners Identification Card.
