Volunteers

Above And Beyond On Ray Day

DCAS staff would like to give a special shout out to Orange Paw volunteers Susie, Amy, Anne, Michelle, and Marie who went above and beyond normal volunteer duties for long time resident Raymond to help him find rescue placement and get out of the shelter! Hopefully everyone was able to see the brilliant Game of Thrones themed marketing on DCAS social media for Ray Day, Ray's appointed name day, all created by these brilliant, and creative volunteers. Days leading up to the event, which was also Ray's first birthday, Ray was promoted as Lord Raymond, House DuPage and could be seen cavorting with dragons and seated on the Iron Throne. Then on the big day Susie, Amy, Anne, Michelle, and Marie treated Lord Raymond to a long walk around Wheaton so that he could survey his kingdom, followed by a romp at the Belly Rub Klub to stretch his regal legs, and a sleepover complete with a royal feast and birthday cake with his loyal handmaidens.

Thanks to all of their hard work, not just for Ray Day, but every day, Raymond found rescue placement and is currently decompressing in a loving foster home getting ready for the day when he will be ready to find his forever.

Thank you Susie, Amy, Michelle, Anne, & Marie and all of our Orange Paw volunteers, trainers, and staff for everything that you do to make saves like Raymond's possible! Now, thanks to this monumental effort Raymond is resting comfortably in a foster home with Animal Heartline Humane Association and will be available for adoption shortly!

Snausages

A Bright New Future

Snausages came to the shelter as an easy, chill guy with a severe case of entropion in both eyes. Entropion occurs when the eyelid turns inward and is continuously scratched by the eyelashes, leading to corneal ulceration, etc. It was not determined if he would be able to keep one of his eyes. Luckily with the great medical work and care from Veterinary Administrator Dr. Hanek and DCAS staff, this handsome hunk will now be able to see from both of his eyes, pain free!

With his surgeries behind him Snausages then needed a loving environment to heal. So a call was put out to DCAS rescue partners hoping for a foster placement for the big guy while he recovered from his surgery and moved on to the next leg of his journey to find a forever home. Not long after, Pittie Please Rescue stepped up and Snausages was off to the comfort of a foster home.

Now named Mr. Snuffleufugus, fondly referred to as Gus, is recovered and ready to find a loving family to call his own. Think he might be the right dog for your family? Visit the Pittie Please Rescue website to complete an application!

DCAS could not saves as many lives without dedicated rescue partners willing to step up and help when there is an animal in need. Thank you Pittie Please Rescue for committing to Gus 9FKA Snausages)

Spring Fashion

Walk The Runway With A DCAS Fashionista

They're looking good and they're ready to bust out of the shelter and strut their stuff on the runway (or sidewalk!) with someone just like YOU! Adoptable dogs Buddy and Josie have been waiting a long time to find their furever, perhaps because they would both like to be the only animal in the home (what model isn't temperamental?). But they promise a lifetime of love to the person who will make them their one and only. All they need is a chance to shine.

To help them on their way DCAS, thanks to the generosity of DuPage Animal Friends donors, has put together a package so that Buddy and Josie can walk the sidewalk in style with their adopters.

Adopt Buddy or Josie and receive:

  • Freedom harness and leash
  • Martingale collar
  • Treat pouch
  • Training treats
  • Poop bags and dispenser
  • Snuffle mat
  • Free Microchip registration

Make Mine Chocolate

This Year Make Yours Chocolate

Rabbits are so frequently surrendered to shelters when owners become overwhelmed by the demands of bunny parenthood. In fact, according to the Humane Society of the United States rabbits are actually the third most commonly surrendered animal in the United States right after dogs and cats (and DCAS's intake numbers confirm this trend). This is due to the very common misconception that rabbits have few needs and are easy and inexpensive to care for which is untrue. Despite their small stature rabbits have big needs to keep them healthy and happy!

Rabbits can make delightful pets but have very specific needs and can be costly and time consuming to care for. Rabbits should always be researched carefully before being brought into a home and should never be purchased as a gift. So please, this year for Easter, make your rabbit a chocolate one!
