Thankful For Our Rescue Partners

Each year DuPage County Animal Services provides care and shelter for ~2,500 animals! This would not be possible without the dedication of shelter staff, volunteers, and partnering animal rescue groups that transfer animals struggling in the shelter into their care where they can relax in a foster home before they are adopted. This holiday season we want to say a special thank you to all of our rescue partners who have, so far this year, helped us save whopping 644 animals of all species, ages, and sizes! This amazing effort has helped find these 644 animals homes while also opening up cage space here at the shelter for the constant stream of incoming animals.

Each and every rescue that partners with DCAS to save lives is amazing, and we are so thankful for their dedication to saving the lives of homeless pets in DuPage County. In this issue we would like to give a special shout-out to rescue partners Belly Up For Adoption, Animal Heartline Humane Association, Pittie Please, and Chi-Town Pitties who have opened their arms to some of the neediest dogs struggling in the shelter environment. Many of which are still waiting for their furever family to find them.

AHH

Animal Heartline Humane Association is a foster based rescue group that is dedicated to finding homes for stray and unwanted pets. An amazing rescue, Animal Heartline came to the rescue of Lulabelle, a 1.5yr old cattle dog mix who was surrendered to the shelter when her owners could no longer keep her in their apartment. Scared in the shelter Lulabelle was very nervous to meet new people but once she was comfortable boy did this girl shine! Knowing how uncomfortable Lulabelle was in the shelter environment DCAS staff reached out to Animal Heartline to see if Lulabelle might be able to wait for her fur-ever family in a foster home and right away Animal Heartline said yes! Now Lulabelle is a happy, healthy, dog-loving girl ready to be a part of a family!

Animal Heartline Humane has been incredibly generous with their time and care this year and has transferred many other animals from DCAS into their foster homes.

BUFA

Belly Up For Adoptions (BUFA) is a non-profit dog rescue run out of The BellyRub Klub, a doggy daycare and training facility. With a staff of experienced dog handlers BUFA has been a saving grace for dogs that are in need of additional training before they go to their furever homes.  Eddie, a then 2 year old terrier mix came into the DCAS as a stray. A dog-loving, fetch obsessed boy Eddie struggled with  living in the shelter and found it difficult to give up his food bowl and toys. BUFA came to the Eddie's rescue and welcomed him into their rescue where he could work on sharing and participate in doggy play groups to burn off his extra energy. Now Eddie is a happy, bouncy boy looking for his furever home! Click here to learn more about Eddie and how you can make him a part of YOUR family!

Pittie Please

Pittie Please Rescue is a foster based all-breed rescue that is dedicated to raising awareness and providing resources to eliminate the stigma associated with pit bull type dogs while also providing shelter and care for a variety of other breeds. When there is a special needs (medical or behavioral) dog at DCAS that needs out Pittie Please is who we call! Currently, Pittie Please has a one-eyed wonder that was pulled from DCAS who is looking for his furever! Check him out below!

  • Tucker: 7yr old, neutered male, Coonhound/Lab mix

Chitown

Chi-Town Pitties is another remarkable rescue group that DCAS is so thankful to have the opportunity to work with. Whenever there is a pittie (or other) in need Chi-Town Pitties does their best to rescue. Over the past year Chi-Town has been instrumental in finding homes for a number of DCAS dogs in need. While many have found their furever homes there are still several wonderful dogs waiting for a family. Take a look below and see if any might be the right fit for you!

  • Cosmo: 1yr old, neutered male, Pit Bull
  • Mitch: 14yr old, neutered male, Chinese Crested
  • Fiona: 8 month old, spayed female, Pit Bull
  • Maxi: 12yr old, spayed female, Maltese

DuPage County Animal Services strives to provide the best care for each and every animal that comes through the shelter doors. This would not be possible without the endless dedication of the many rescue groups that partner with DCAS. DCAS staff would like to thank each of our amazing rescue partners that have done so much to provide homes for the homeless pet population of DuPage County. Thank you for your tireless efforts, for your endless dedication, and for your boundless love! We could not do what we do without your help!

Looking For A Home To Be Thankful For

Grey Baby Jr. and Tinkerbelle, a bonded pair of besties, have been waiting for 2 MONTHS for their forever! How could this be you ask? Well, these sweet girls have tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) which prevents them from living in a home with other cats.

What is FeLV exactly? FeLV is a retrovirus that can inhibit a cat’s immune system which can lead to a variety of infections and diseases. So what does that mean for a cat diagnosed with FeLV? Well the answer to that is, it depends. Some cats can live for years with the virus while others can succumb to complications of the disease within a year or two. Despite Tinkerbelle and Grey Baby Jr.'s unfortunate diagnosis they are kittens just brimming with life and while their life may be short that time can still be filled with joy. That’s where they need YOUR help! They need a loving furever home where they can be the only cats, a furever home that will shower them with love! Think that might be YOURS?

Best of all, DCAS is making it easy to say "yes" to these two. Their adoption fee is waived and DCAS veterinarians will provide quarterly check-ups, and treatment for illnesses/symptoms related to their diagnosis.

Tinkerbelle & Grey Baby Jr. are currently living in a foster home but would LOVE to meet YOU! Please call the shelter at 630-407-2800 or email animalservices@dupageco.org to learn how to make these BFFs part of YOUR family!

AC- Thanksgiving Safety 2019

Have A Safe And Happy Holiday!

Thanksgiving is a time for family gatherings and feasts but can be distressing for our animal companions. Pets won't have anything to be thankful for if they dine on turkey carcasses or nibble on pet-unfriendly floral arrangements. Use these tips to keep your pet healthy and safe this holiday season and have many more years with you to be thankful for!

Please remember when you are visiting for the holidays that not all pets will be as overjoyed to see you as you are to see them. Allow animals time to adjust to your presence and decide whether and when they want to interact with you.

Visit the ASPCA and and AVMA websites for more tips to make this holiday as enjoyable for your pet as it is for you.
