AC- Frankie

"Are you being a ghost for Halloween or are you just my boo?" ~ Frankie

Hey girl, or boy (I don't discriminate!), ready to scare up a good time for Meow-loween? I'm on the prowl for a purrson all my own. What am I looking for? Someone at least counter height would be great, opposable thumbs for opening treat jars is a must, and excellent listening skills (I'm a talker) are preferred. I'm looking for a kindred spirit who shares my love of snacking, adventure, and meaningful conversation. Are you ready for love?

AC-Edna

"That's a nice witch costume but you won't be needing the broom anymore. You've already swept me off my feet." ~Edna

Me first, then you (if there's time) okay? I call dibs on all boxes brought by the man in the brown shorts and first go on all Fancy Feast! Yes, I've been called demanding, but I like to think that the right purrson will find my take-charge, no nonsense catitude appealing! Dog lovers need not apply!

AC- Michelle

"I know I just met you, but I already like you more than candy corn." ~Michelle

Hey, I haven't met you so this sounds crazy. My name is Michelle, adopt me, maybe? I'm a young gal in the prime of my life that enjoys people watching, casual evenings on the couch cuddling with my purrson, and good meowsic. Seeking partner that enjoys same. Looking for a purrfect Meow-loween treat? Adopt me!

A Focus On Ferals

AC- Feral Fixers

You may have seen them wandering in the street or stalking through your backyard. Though these animals have the same genetic makeup as your average house cat, they have not been socialized to live with humans and behave more like wild animals. Unlike their tame counterparts, truly feral cats are best suited for life outdoors and typically form colonies where food, water, and shelter are available.

National Feral Cat Day is a purrfect time to shine a light on these cats and what we can all do to keep them safe and healthy while also preventing them from reproducing. Organizations like Feral Fixers are dedicated to practicing and promoting Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNvR) of feral cats in DuPage County.

Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return is a feral cat management plan in which feral cats are humanely trapped and then vaccinated, ear-tipped, microchipped, and sterilized by a veterinarian before they are returned to a familiar area where they are looked after by caretakers. This management allows feral cats to live their lives as safely and as healthy as possible while  also preventing an overpopulation issue.

In an effort to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy, yet un-socialized cats in DuPage County DCAS has established a working cat program that helps place feral and semi-feral cats in barns or warehouses where they can earn their keep hunting rodents and still live the wild life they prefer. Luv-A-Bull

AC- Jon Snow

National Pit Bull Awareness Day is a nationwide event created to bring positive attention to pit bulls and dispel negative myths.

Did you know that "Pit Bull" is not actually a breed but rather  a catch-all term used for any dog that has a blocky head, short coat, and a stocky build? These dogs are in fact very different genetically. Pit bulls are a diverse group, each dog can vary widely in appearance, energy level, personality, and size. The one thing that they all have in common is a tendency to be misrepresented and stigmatized.

National Pit Bull Awareness Day encourages people to see beyond the stigma and see the big headed, big smiling, goofy dogs that have been misunderstood for too long. On October 28th take some time and meet-a-bull, hug-a-bull, luv-a-bull, and, if you have room in your heart and home, adopt-a-bull.

To learn more about Pit Bulls and the myths that surround them visit our rescue partner Chi-Town Pitties website and learn  how wonderful these dogs can be!

DCAS has a number of wonderful, luv-a-bull pit bulls! Learn more about them at: bit.ly/DCASadoptables.
