Cricket

Spending Her Last Moments Loved

This is Cricket. She was found wandering aimlessly as a stray and brought to the safety of DuPage County Animal Services. Filthy, matted, and, as was discovered later, suffering from a number of medical conditions Cricket needed help urgently! Thanks to the dedicated efforts of DCAS staff and rescue partner Chi-Town Pitties a loving home was found for Cricket where she could spend the rest of her remaining days in comfort. To read more about Cricket's heartwarming success story visit the DuPage Animal Friends website.

Help Tasha Find A Home

Tasha

Let's talk about Tasha. This sweet, 8yr old, Doberman mix girl has been at the shelter looking for her furever home for almost 5 months! Surrendered because her owner had some health problems that she needed to focus on Tasha found herself a senior without a home. After patiently waiting for a family Tasha was adopted but then shortly returned for barking at her new owner.

Now Tasha is back, waiting, hoping, and dreaming of a love that will last the rest of her life. Staff adores her, volunteers can't get enough of her, and the foster homes that have taken Tasha in for short breaks from the shelter say she is the perfect house guest! Despite this Tasha is still here! It might be because of her age, but at 8 years old she still has so much life to live. Perhaps it is because of her size, Tasha promises she can snuggle up on the couch with you with plenty of room to spare! Maybe it is because Tasha would prefer to be the only dog in the house, but all that means is she wants to adore you and you alone!

Help us help Tasha. If you're in the market for a sweet, senior dog come by the shelter and meet her today. If not, please share Tasha's story. The holiday season is right around the corner and the best gift we can give Tasha is the home that she has been dreaming of, the home that she deserves.

World Rabies Day

Rabies Day

Rabies is a deadly viral disease that attacks the nervous system. Rabies can be transmitted via contact (typically through a bite) with saliva or tissues from the nervous system of an infected animal. Rabies is a zoonotic disease which means it can be passed between species (including humans).

The spread of rabies is most effectively controlled by vaccinating your domestic pets against the disease. Keeping your animal up-to-date with vaccinations is not only essential to prevention, it is the law. All dogs and cats in DuPage County are required by law to be currently vaccinated against rabies.

World Rabies Day is held annually on September 28th to honor Louis Pasteur, the creator of the first rabies vaccine who began the work towards rabies prevention and education. Take this day to learn more about the rabies virus and what you can do to help control it. If your're pet isn't up to date on vaccinations today would be a great day to visit your vet!

Need a low cost vaccine option for your pet? There are several low cost vaccine clinics in the area.
