Clear the Shelters will be a very busy day at DuPage County Animal Services! Not interested in standing in line? That's okay! Right now DCAS is experiencing a CAT-egory 5 Emergency and we need YOUR help now to evacuate cats from our very FULL adoption room! The first 25 adult (6 months and older) cats adopted will have their adoption fees waived! Kittens will be using a buddy system for the evacuation. Adopt one kitten for $120 and get a BUDDY for no additional cost until 10 kitten pairs have been adopted!

Beat the crowds and get a feline friend today! We promise their will still be plenty of cats available for adoption during the Clear the Shelters event on August 18th!

Pre-Adoption Checklist

CTS Checklist

What You Need To Know To Adopt

Clear the Shelters on August 18th will be a very BUSY day at DuPage County Animal Services. To help facilitate the adoption process and to make the adoption process as quick and as enjoyable as possible shelter staff have put together the adoption checklist pictured above and have created a few helpful tips  for potential adopters. Hopefully this helps you enjoy Clear the Shelters day and finds all our homeless pets the homes they have been dreaming of!

  • To help manage the crowds on Clear the Shelters day DCAS will be using the WaitListMe app to let adopters know when it is their turn to view adoptable animals. We ask that all potential adopters bring their cell phones to the event so they can be notified of their place in line and when an animal has been adopted. You will not need to download the app, but staff will require your cell phone number to keep you informed.
  • If possible, please complete an adoption application prior to the event. This will allow staff to review your application and contact you if any additional information is needed. Applications can be found on the DCAS website and returned via email to animalservices@dupageco.org
  • Same day adoptions will only be allowed for completed and approved applications thus it is in your best interest to get your application and requirements completed in advance.
  • Submitting your application in advance will save you time, but does not guarantee you a spot at the front of the line. Get to CTS early to secure your place in line!
  • All members of the household must meet an adoptable animal before an adoption can be completed. If possible bring all family members along on Clear the Shelters day.
  • If you are bringing your dog in to meet a shelter dog please either leave your dog in the car with the air conditioning running or bring a friend or family member with you to the event so that they can hold your dog while you view adoptable animals. Owned dogs will not be allowed inside the shelter during the event. Please remember that it will likely be HOT so plan accordingly for your dog. Water will be provided for both owners and their pets.
  • If members of the household are not able to attend or if additional information is needed on an application don't fret! Adopters are able to put a 24 hour hold on an adoptable animal and can complete the adoption process the end of the next business day which would be Monday, August 20th by 6:30pm for this occasion.

We look forward to seeing all potential adopters on Clear the Shelters day and are excited to join with you to empty the cages at DuPage County Animal Services!

AC- Craig Back

An UnderDog Waiting To Be A WonderDog

Hi everyone,

It's me, Craig, and I'm back at the shelter again. You might have heard that I had a home and I did for a little while but the my new dog sister decided that maybe she didn't want a little brother anymore and she made that very CLEAR so my owner decided the best thing for me would be to come back to the shelter.

I'm not worried! I'm used to being the UnderDog and if you, like me, enjoy action flicks then you know that UnderDogs always win in the end! For now I'm ...reacquainting myself with old friends and enjoying all the love I've been getting. When my person decides to come for me I'll be waiting, big smile in place, ready to go to my furever home.

Sincerely (and with many kisses!),
Craig

Under Dog Craig will be one of the dog that will be available for a fee-waived adoption on Clear the Shelters. As part of the Under Dog to Wonder Dog initiative Craig will go home with a wonderful package that help him settle in and be successful in his new home.

The Under Dog to Wonder Dog package includes everything you need to set your dog up for success and continue his/her training at home:
- Pre-adoption counseling for potential adopters
- Three prepaid in-home training consultations for adopters
- A personalized training plan for each dog
- Three months of post-adoption phone/email consultation
- A Sound Beginning Book & CD set
- Freedom Harness & Leash set
- Kong Wobbler enrichment toy
- Kong
- 6‘ foot leash
- Martingale collar
- Nylabone
Under Dog to Wonder Dog is made possible by the generous donors of DuPage Animal Friends

Because of Craig's Under Dog status he will not be able to go home with an adopter on the same day this will allow his new owner time to get the house ready! Craig also comes with specific requirements for his new home. Adopters that do not meet these requirements will not be able to interact with or adopt Craig.

  • Adopters must reside in the Chicago land area
  • No children under the age of 15 can reside in the home, Craig is too bouncy for little ones!
  • Craig cannot go to a home with a small dog but would love an active similar sized or larger dog. He loves to play but can be a bit rough!
  • No cats allowed! Craig thinks they might be tasty!
  • A fenced yard is required so Craig can get his zoomies out!

Craig might be a little extra work but we promise his smile and the kisses he is guaranteed to share make him well worth the effort! Read more about Craig here: bit.ly/UnderDogCraig

  • If you are in need of a rabies tag please bypass the check in line outside and enter through the front door and proceed to the counter. A staff member will assist you.
