We AreThankful For Our Rescue Partners!

Every year DuPage County Animal Care & Control provides shelter and care for ~2,300 animals! This would not be possible without the dedication of the shelter staff, our amazing volunteers, and the fantastic rescue groups that work hand-in-hand to find homes for as many animals as possible! This holiday season we want to say a special thank you to all of our rescue partners who have, so far this year, helped us save whopping 604 animals of all species, ages, and sizes! This amazing effort has helped find these 604 animals homes while also opening up cage space here at the shelter for the constant stream of incoming animals.

All of our rescue partners are amazing, and we are so thankful for all of their dedicated efforts to help the homeless pet population in DuPage County. In this issue we would like to give a special shout-out to rescue partners Pittie Please Rescue and Chi-Town Pitties who have helped save many dogs who were overlooked and struggling in the shelter.

AC-Pittie Please

Pittie Please Rescue stepped up to the plate this year when they saved Niko, a handsome and hunky pittie who was very scared in the shelter. Niko was much loved by shelter staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to help him find a way out of the shelter. After 4 long months everyone was so happy to see the smile on Niko's face when a Pittie Please volunteer loaded him up and took him on his freedom ride! Now, this handsome, hunky boy is living it up in a foster home and is eagerly awaiting his furever family. AC- Chi-Town Pitties

Chi-Town Pitties is another remarkable rescue group that DCACC is so thankful to have the opportunity to work with. Whenever there is a pittie in need Chi-Town Pitties does their best to rescue. Such was the case when a young pit bull puppy, who would later come to be known as Rick Allen, was surrendered to the shelter. When Rick Allen came to DCACC, he was suffering from a  badly broken right front leg that ultimately had to be amputated. The type of recovery TLC that Rick Allen needed as he came out of his surgery is difficult to provide in a shelter environment. Recognizing a dog in need, Chi-Town Pitties stepped up and pulled Rick Allen so he could recuperate in a loving home environment. Now Rick Allen is a happy, healthy, dog-friendly and cat-loving tripod looking for a furever home! Click here to learn more about Rick Allen and the other amazing adoptables at Chi-Town Pitties!

DuPage County Animal Care & Control strives to provide the best care for each and every animal that comes through the shelter doors. This would not be possible without the endless dedication of the many rescue groups that partner with DCACC. DCACC staff would like to thank each of our amazing rescue partners that have done so much to provide homes for the homeless pet population of DuPage County. Thank you for your tireless efforts, for your endless dedication, and for your boundless love! We could not do what we do without your help!

Adorable Malcolm is thriving in his furever home and is much loved by his mom Linda!

A Bond To Be Thankful For

The following is a message we received from DCACC volunteer and hospice adopter, Linda H.

In April of 2017 I attended Animal Pals and was partnered with the most adorable dog named Malcolm. He was immediately a hit with the residents at the DuPage Care Center. On our way back to the shelter I was advised that Malcolm may have bone cancer and could not be put up on the adoption floor to find his forever home.

I went home and could not stop thinking about the little guy and wondering if my husband and I would be a good fit for hospice care for Malcolm, if we could provide him with a loving home to spend his remaining days. After much soul searching we decided to adopt Malcolm. We thought we were saving him, but I was in for quite a surprise!

Malcolm loves to take very long walks. I figured if the walks ever became too much for him that he would let me know and he never has. As a result, Malcolm has saved me right back. Since adopting him I have lost 20lbs, been taken off of one of my blood pressure medications, and taken off my diabetes medication as well. We have become a great team! Both of us are in much better health than before we met.

If I could choose any dog on the planet to love forever this little man would be the one! Thank you to DuPage County Animal Care & Control for sending me the greatest gift I could have asked for!

            -Volunteer Linda

Linda, it's really you who deserves the heartfelt thanks. There is no greater act of selflessness and kindness than that of Hospice Foster and Hospice Adoption. Thank you for being such an inspiration and a true life saver.

AC- Thanksgiving Safety

Have A Safe And Happy Holiday!

Thanksgiving is a time for friends, family and holiday feasts—but also a time for possible distress for our animal companions. Pets won’t be so thankful if they munch on under-cooked turkey or a pet-unfriendly floral arrangement, or if they stumble upon an unattended alcoholic drink. Use these tips to help keep your pets safe and healthy this holiday season and have many more years together to be thankful for!

For more information check out the holiday safety tips from the ASPCA.

AC- Dolly Thanksgiving
Dolly Pawton is 5 years old, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and would love to go home with YOU! Dolly is kid and dog friendly but is looking for a cat free home.

Help Us Find Dolly A Home To Be Thankful For!

Hi, my name is Dolly! I'm a big, full-of-fun gal and I have so many things to be thankful for! You see, before I came to DCACC I was living as a stray and now that I am at the shelter my life is so much better. I am thankful that I get to feel safe and loved every day, I am thankful for my cozy bed, yummy food, and all the great toys that I get to play with! Most of all I am thankful that I am getting a chance to find a furever family to spend the rest of my life with!

This is where I need your help! Think I might be the right dog for you? Come by the shelter during adoption hours for a visit! Maybe I'm not right for your family? That's okay! You can still help me find a family by sharing me! Tell all your friends I'm looking for a home and share my link: bit.ly/DCACCadoptableDolly. Help me have one more thing to be thankful for next year!

Gobble, Gobble!

Love,

Dolly Pawton
