2025 Water Main Improvements - Contract A - Project Update 6/5/2026

2025 Water Main Improvements - Contract A - Project Update 6/5/2026

Sixth Avenue (Prairie to Greenview)

This week, the contractor paved the first layer of asphalt pavement.  Next week, the contractor will adjust any manhole frames in the pavement to the proper elevation.  Soon after, the contractor will pave the final layer of asphalt.  Due to harsh growing environment for new sod during summer months, landscape restoration with sod may need to be delayed until September.  Work on Sixth is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of June 2026, weather permitting.

Douglas Avenue (Howard to south end)

This week, the contractor poured all concrete items on the east side of Douglas.  Next week, the contractor plans to build the gravel road base to the proper elevation in preparation for paving the first layer of asphalt pavement.  Due to harsh growing environment for new sod during summer months, landscape restoration with sod may need to be delayed until September. Street sign replacement and pavement striping will occur soon after.  Mailboxes will be replaced at their proper locations at this time.  Work on Douglas is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of July 2026, weather permitting.

Prospect Avenue (Lee to Illinois)

Next week, the contractor plans to remove and replace curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveway aprons (as needed) between Lee and Chestnut.  They are currently waiting for permission from the Illinois Department of Transportation to drill a new water main under Mannheim Road.  As part of the water main installation, pipe will be drilled under Mannheim Road and the Wisconsin Central Railroad.  Once the water main is completed, sanitary sewer lining and storm sewer improvements will occur.  Work on Prospect includes a new 8” water main and water services, as well as curb & gutter, sidewalk, and driveway apron replacement as necessary, as well as 6” asphalt pavement replacement.  Work on Prospect is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of July 2026, weather permitting.
