Save the date: Free ADA training for communities
Interested in learning how to improve accessibility and ADA compliance in your community? Join our new free ADA Pilot Program on Tuesday, November 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the CMAP office (433 W. Van Buren St., Chicago). A light breakfast will be provided.
You'll learn about ADA and Title II requirements, how to complete a self-evaluation, the role of an ADA coordinator, and how to develop a transition plan.
This interactive workshop will include opportunities to ask questions. Attendees will also provide feedback to help CMAP shape the training program.
This pilot program is intended for ADA coordinators, municipal staff, community leaders, and anyone interested in learning how to make their communities more accessible. Look out for a registration link coming soon. Email accessibility@cmap.illinois.gov with any questions.

Advocacy group wins major grant to support accessible tourism options in metropolitan Chicago
Strategy for Access, a disability advocacy group in the region, has received a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to bolster tourism for people with disabilities. The group will produce videos and other educational materials on the accessibility features of the Chicago metropolitan region and its many attractions.
The application was supported by CMAP, the Chicago Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, and other partners.

How to design accessible electric vehicle charging stations
Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations installed at local government offices, public parks, or other public places are covered under the ADA. A new technical assistance document, developed by the U.S. Access Board, provides guidance on designing and constructing EV charging stations that are accessible to people with disabilities.

Celebrating Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day
Last week, communities across the region participated in Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day 2022, a celebration highlighting the importance of safe, active, and accessible travel.
More than 60 percent of past Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day organizers say their events led to policy or environmental changes in their communities — the kind that can make walking and rolling to school possible on a regular basis.
