The summer is just beginning and Memorial Day weekend is a perfect time to explore your Scott County Parks. We are dedicated to providing you quality parks and recreation experiences and helping make Scott County a great place to live, vacation, and especially get out and play!

Read on below for other important information, reminders and safety tips:

PARK VISITORS & CAMPERS

  • All federal and state laws and Iowa DNR regulations apply in our parks.
  • The parks are open from 6:00am – 10:30pm for day use visitors.
  • Select campgrounds / campsites are designated as “Reservable”. All other sites are rented on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Restrooms, shower buildings, and playgrounds are open.
  • Firewood, ice and limited concessions items are available for sale in the campground offices.
  • The parks feature trails for those interested in hiking, biking, or just enjoying nature.
  • All vehicles must park in designated parking areas. No parking on grass or in roadways
  • Families and kids are often walking or biking on the roads, so slow down and obey the posted speed limit signs.
  • Quick Tips: Stay up-to-date with the weather, pack and store food safely, practice campfire safety, be aware of allergies, protect your skin from the sun, stay hydrated, dispose of waste properly, don’t transport firewood – purchase locally, remain alert and HAVE FUN!

FISHING & BOATING

  • All fishing and boating on Conservation Board lands and waters must be done in accordance with Iowa DNR regulations and laws.
  • PRIDE Lake at Scott County Park is open for canoeing, kayaking and fishing.
  • The lakes at West Lake Park are filling naturally with rainfall. Recreational opportunities will remain limited until the water levels rise and fish stocking takes place.
  • Buffalo Shores Beach offers a public double boat ramp for easy access to the Mississippi River.
  • All vehicles and trailers must park in designated parking areas. No parking on grass or in roadways.
  • Quick Tips for Boaters: Always wear a life jacket, avoid alcohol, be especially careful on personal watercrafts, children under 13 must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD while underway, enroll in a boater education class, don’t overload your boat, operate at a safe speed, always have a passenger serve as a lookout in addition to the operator, and to watch out for low water areas or submerged objects.

SWIMMING

  • The Scott County Park Pool will be open May 28th – 30th from 12:00pm – 7:00pm. Starting Saturday, June 4th, the pool will be open daily for the season.
  • West Lake Park Beach is closed for the 2022 season due to insufficient water levels following completion of the lake restoration project.
  • Buffalo Shores free public beach is great for relaxing and tanning. There are no lifeguards and swimming is at your own risk. Alcohol is prohibited on the beach.

GOLFING


HISTORIC SITES

  • The Dan Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village and Buffalo Bill Cody Homestead are open for visitors, and the Pioneer Village Memorial Day Weekend Event will take place from 11:00am – 4:00pm, May 29th – 30th.
  • The Village is open from 9:00am – 6:00pm daily through October
  • The Homestead is open from 9:00am – 5:00pm daily through October
  • Enjoy ice cream treats and popcorn at the Walnut Grove Soda Shop. Open Fri – Sun beginning May 29th, from 11:00am – 6:00pm.
