Earth Day in the U.S. began in 1970 as 20 million Americans, from all walks of life, mobilized in an effort to change our environment. Today, Earth Day is celebrated by more than a billion people per year in 192 countries.
Arbor Day began 150 years ago, in 1872 and is similar to Earth Day because it celebrates nature. Arbor Day's specific purpose is to celebrate the planting, upkeep and preservation of trees.
Here in Norwalk we have scheduled clean up and tree planting projects for Tuesday, April 22 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
We will help you plan ahead, and provide you opportunities to give back to make Norwalk a great place to live, work and play!

The Park and Recreation Department will host Mothers and their child(ren) for an evening filled with dancing, fun, light snacks, dessert and photo opportunities. If mom is not available, an aunt, sister, grandmother or mother figure is always welcome. All ages are welcome!

Norwalk Parks and Recreation partners with Norwalk Police Department, Fire Department and many sponsors to put on this event. Participants will bring their bikes and get their bike inspected as well as a ride on a safety course. There will be a speaker talking about bike safety. After completing the course, the group will be led on a bike ride in the area surrounding the Norwalk Public Safety Building. Bike helmets will be worn during the ride, a helmet will be provided for those in need. Each registered child will have a chance to win a brand new bike. You must be present to win. Parent volunteers are welcome and are encouraged to ride along with their child if under the age of 7. T-shirts are given to participants that have registered. Refreshments are provided. Parent/Guardian must stay at event.

When the sun goes down, the fun begins. The Easter Egg hunt will start at 8:00 pm. Please meet at the Norwalk McAninch Sports Complex parking lot no earlier than 7:45 pm. You are required to bring your own flashlight (size limited to no larger than 2 "D" cell batteries.) An adult must accompany all children. There will be a limit of 20 eggs per child. They will be split up into age groups and Parks and Recreation staff will announce the release of each group.

Ages 3 - 5 years old - This is a basic intro into the sport of tennis. The class will focus on foot eye and hand eye coordination while using fun age-appropriate games. The class will be taught with red balls and 19- and 21-inch racquet is suggested for this age. No racquets no problem, they will be provided.
1st - 2nd grade tennis - This is an introductory class. The child will learn forehands, backhands, volleys, and how to start the rally. The class will be played on a 36-foot court, with a small net, red balls, and 21-inch racquets. No racquets no problem, they will be provided.
3rd - 5th grade tennis - This is a beginner/intermediate class. The child will learn forehands, backhands, volleys, serves and how to start the point. The last day of class we will have a mini round robin so the kids can experience how to play tennis and keep score. No racquets no problem, they will be provided.
6th - 12th grade tennis - Beginner - advanced levels welcome. The practice will be geared to the ability of the teenager. The hope is, after 4 lessons to focus on match play, correct score keeping and being able to call the ball in/out.
Adult Red Ball Beginner - Red Ball Beginner tennis is geared towards learning tennis quick. By the 4th week you will be able to keep score and play a real tennis match. The focus is on basic understanding of all the strokes while implanting the stroke during play. You will learn where to stand to start the point and recovery. Smaller racquets, smaller courts, easy scoring.
Intermediate Adult - Intermediate tennis is geared toward tennis players that have a basic understanding of the game. This is also for people that have played in the past and want to get back into playing tennis. The focus will be on spins, placement, and tactics.

Definitions:
A household is defined as all immediate family members residing at the same street address. This includes children of divorced parents who have joint custody, stepchildren, and foster children. Baby-sitters, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and ex-spouses are not considered immediate family members.
A non-resident is defined as anyone living outside the Norwalk city limits.
High School Pass:Ages 9th - 12th grade must present a high school ID at time of pass pick up.
College Pass: Must be enrolled in college courses and present a college ID at the time of pass pick up.
Nanny pass: A pass for your nanny to take your children to the City State Bank Fieldhouse Monday - Thursday. Limit 1 per family.
Membership cancellation: You must notify the office a minimum of 5 days prior to your membership renewal date to cancel for the current month. Refunds will not be given.
