The Greenways Master Plan will work alongside the Comprehensive Park and Open Space Plan as the planning documents that will be used to guide future Norwalk greenway, trail and park system improvements and acquisitions. This plan has been recommended by the Park and Recreation Advisory Commission and City Staff and was approved by City Council in November 2019. The plan identifies goals and recommendations for the future development of trails and greenways within the City of Norwalk.

~ New to Norwalk Parks and Recreation we are partnering with Courage League Sports to bring adaptive programming to Norwalk families. Courage League Sports is a non profit adaptive sports and recreation program offering year round opportunities for children and adults who are not able to go full speed due to a physical, cognitive or emotional disability. By adapted the pace, equipment or nature of an activity, Courage League can provide a safe and accessible environment where participants can go at their own speed. All programs will include super hero training, fitness, group games, music/movement, seasonal sports plus social skill development and lots of fun.
This program is for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Four basic principles:
TEACH IT! Each class students are taught the basic STEM engineering concepts behind each project;
BUILD IT! Students use LEGO bricks to build different projects each session;
PROGRAM IT! Then they program the project to perform different actions using drag and drop icon based software;
PLAY IT! Finally they play with their projects, modify it, create extensions, and have fun working.

TEACH IT! Each class students are taught different chess concepts and coaches to implement those concepts into there chess game;
PRACTICE IT! Students practice positions set by the coach to improve their understanding of the concept;
PUZZLE IT! Students are given chess puzzles (constructed by WIM Serafima Sokolovskaya) and work with coach guidance;
PLAY IT! Each class ends with students playing 20 - 30 minutes of chess!

TEACH IT! Students learn different story-telling and coding techniques (movement blocks, animations, dialogue, timing etc.);
CODE IT! Students use Scratch®* to code their own animated story lines: i.e. westerns, missions in space and even dance parties;
EXPLORE IT! Students can write their own code, experiment with it and test new options. We foster a collaborative environment where students learn from each other’s creativity;
KEEP IT! Students can keep their code online with Scratch®* and can access it and expand upon it at anytime.
*Scratch® is an MIT created and monitored, kid-safe web interface. It uses a drag and drop programming interface to teach students of all levels coding practices. Your child will receive a Scratch® username and password so they can access their projects from any computer at anytime. Scratch® is not affiliated with YEL! nor does it endorse this program.
