Structure Fire at 314 South Clinton Street
The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 314 South Clinton Street at 2:49 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, The first fire unit arrived on scene approximately 3 minutes after notification and reported a working structure fire on the third floor of a four-story building that was under construction.
Seventeen fire personnel responded to the initial alarm. Outside agency support and assistance was provided by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, North Liberty Fire Department, Coralville Fire Department, Solon Fire Department, Tiffin Fire Department, Lone Tree Fire Department, Hills Fire Department, Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, Iowa City Public Works, Iowa City Water Department, Mid-American Energy Company, Salvation Army, and the Johnson County Emergency Management Agency,
The fire was brought under control in approximately forty minutes with complete extinguishment occurring three hours and twenty minutes after initial dispatch.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. One construction worker was rescued from the on-site construction crane with no reported injuries. A loss estimate is not yet available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department.
