The City of Iowa City is making progress as it works to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions.
City staff recently released the report Iowa City's Municipal Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory Update, analyzing data from 2000, 2008 and 2015 to document trends over the last 15 years.
The data showed that the City had decreased its emissions by 15.5 percent, and is on track to meet a reduction target of 26 to 28 percent by 2025, as set by the Paris Climate Accord. Additionally, this report contains
data which will be used in planning efforts in order for the city government to meet
the larger goal of reducing emissions 80 percent by 2050.
Iowa City's Climate Action Steering Committee is tasked with developing the City's first Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, which will layout ways to achieve Iowa City's community-wide emissions targetrs. To learn more, visit icgov.org/climateaction.

We need your help to improve bicycling in Iowa City.
The League of American Bicyclists is currently reviewing Iowa City’s application to renew its ‘Bike Friendly Community’ status - with the goal of upgrading its current silver status to gold.
As part of the review process, the League is asking the community to participate in a brief online survey to better understand local bicyclists’ experiences in Iowa City.
The survey takes less than five minutes, and is due by Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017.
We need volunteers for the annual Iowa River Cleanup!
Participants will either haul
