Help the Hawkeyes during a "Hawkeye Day of Caring"
Help University of Iowa athletes in a Day of Caring on Sunday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Wetherby Neighborhood.
Hawkeye swimmers and divers will help clean up areas surrounding Wetherby Park, including Broadway and Pepperwood Mall. Meet at the Wetherby Shelter to receive gloves and bags.

2017 Farm to Street Dinner seeking fund recipients
Local nonprofits are encouraged to apply to receive up to $10,000 from the second annual Farm to Street Dinner.
The Farm to Street Dinner is a local food event presented as a joint effort between the City of Iowa City, Johnson County and the Iowa City Downtown District and is a fundraiser for local food initiatives. This year's dinner will be held Thursday, August 17 and will bring together
members of Iowa City's diverse, vibrant community to share a table, a story, and
a meal, while supporting our local food system.
Applications are now being accepted. Eligible groups should be working to improve the local food system. The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 30. Applications can submitted online.
Local nonprofits to benefit from Pilot Energy Efficiency Grant
Iowa City based nonprofits will receive funding to help with energy efficient projects like light installation, programmable thermostats and more!
The Pilot Energy Efficiency grant is designed to make sustainability part of their ongoing operations by improving energy efficiency and providing necessary technical help. The City will award up to $30,000 to pilot two to five projects.
The application period has closed, but a new energy efficiency grant application that encourages collaboration between local agencies will be announced soon. More details to come!
Community Garden growing season returns
Get your green thumb going! This growing season, Iowa City Parks and Recreation is offering two new community garden locations at Reno Park and Kiwanis Park.
Folks began signing-up for plots, located at four Iowa City parks, on Monday, April 3 and are already nearly sold out! The Iowa City Council has made community gardening a top priority. To learn more about the program visit icgov.org/gardenplots.
Iowa City named a 'Best Green City for Families'
Iowa City was recently ranked No. 4 as a 'Best Green City for Families' by SmartAsset. Iowa City received top marks for air quality, bicycling and public transit, as well as high graduation rates and a low unemployment rate. Read the full article.
Climate Action Steering Commitee members announced
Iowa City officially has a Climate Action Steering Committee.
On Tuesday, March 21 the City Council announced the first at-large community members who will join seven stakeholder members on the committee.
This group is charged with creating the City's first Climate Action and Adaption Plan to develop strategies to achieve the community-wide greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 26 to 28 percent by 2025 and 80 percent by 2050.
