Joint Letter on HPV in Schools
Immunization advocates across the state of Iowa have come together to draft a statement strongly encouraging all Iowa school districts to continue providing education about human papillomavirus (HPV), the vaccine to prevent HPV, and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in school. HPV is a common virus that can cause cancer later in life. "Iowa has the second-highest incidence rate for cancer in the U.S. and Iowa is the only state with an increasing rate of cancer. In fact, Iowa is first in the nation for cancer in the mouth and throat, which can be cased by HPV." Read the full letter at IowaPHA.org.
