Community Health Worker Course Open
DMACC is now partnering with Iowa Organizations to offer a Community Health Worker non-credit certification course offered as online hybrid skills training or as a registered apprenticeship.
Community Health Workers (CHW) focus on improving individual and community health and health access. This comprehensive course will help you obtain the skills and knowledge needed to serve as a community health worker. Topics include:
- Community Health Worker (CHW) overview introduction
- Core competencies for providing direct services and enhancing client interactions
- How to enhance professional skills
- Applying these skills to key health issues

State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council
The State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council (SIYAC) is a formal state council in Iowa Code that fosters communication amongst a group of engaged youth ages 14-20 from across Iowa and the Governor, general assembly, and state and local decision-makers regarding programs, policies, and practices affecting youth and families; and to advocate about youth issues and solutions on behalf of Iowa youth.
SIYAC has 21 members. Quarterly meeting are held in person around the state, and bimonthly meetings are held via zoom. New members are selected in the summer each year and serve a two-year term. There are no participation fees.

Volunteer with HIRTA Helps!

Traffic Fatality Data Released
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released its early estimate of traffic fatalities for 2021. NHTSA estimates 42,915 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes last year, a 10.5% increase from 2020.This projection is the highest number of fatalities since 2005 and the largest annual percentage increase in the Fatality Analysis Reporting System's history. 2023 Sun-Safety Community Projects
In an effort to increase sunscreen use and decrease incidence of sunburns, which can lead to skin cancer, the Iowa Cancer Consortium, in partnership with Iowa HHS, will distribute approximately 50 gallons of SPF30 sunscreen across Iowa for the summer of 2023! Learn more and apply at CancerIowa.org

Rural Health Care Coordination Program
This program implements activities that improve and expand the delivery of health care services through care coordination strategies in rural areas. Over the four-year period of performance, approximately 10 award recipients will use this funding to improve health outcomes through coordinated, community-wide, sustainable programs in rural communities.
