Voter eligibility Requirements:
To Vote in the Primary Election one must be a U.S. citizen, 17 years of age but 18 years of age by the General Election on November 8, 2022, not currently judged by a court to be “incompetent to vote,” and not convicted of a felony.
Absentee Voting:
Absentee ballots for the June 7, 2022 Primary Election will be available to be voted in the Dallas County Auditor’s Office beginning on May 18, 2022.
Absentee ballots may be cast in person at the Dallas County Auditor’s Office at 210 N 10th St., Adel, IA, during regular office hours Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from May 18, 2002 until Monday, June 6, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.
Absentee ballots to be mailed must be requested in writing. Forms are available at the Auditor’s Office and on the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.iowa.gov.
All requests for ballots to be mailed must be received by the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m. May 23, 2022. In order for your ballot to count, it must be returned by the close of polls on election day.
Voter Registration:
The deadline to register to vote is 5 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022. The Dallas County Auditor’s Office will be open on May 23, 2022 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After this date, new voters can still register at the Auditor’s office or register on Election Day at the polling place for the precinct in which they currently reside. The voter will be required to show proof of residency and identity. One form of ID is a valid Iowa Driver’s license with the voter’s current address. Proof of residency must be current within the last 45 days:
- Property tax statement
- Utility bill
- Bank Statement
- Paycheck
- Government check
- Other government document
A current photo ID which is valid and contains an expirations date can be used for proof of identity. Among valid documents are:
- Out-of-state driver’s license
- Non-driver identification card
- US passport
- US military ID
- ID card issued by employer
- Iowa high school or college ID
- Veteran ID

Registration Changes:
Name, party and address changes if you are already registered within Dallas County may be made any time up to and including Election Day. Prior to Election Day, changes are made by the same means as voter registration. On Election Day, changes may be made at the voters’ polling place. If the voter has changed their address, the voter will need to go to the voter’s new polling site.
