The school counselor contacts across the state would like to hear from you! While we are still unsure about the statewide school counselor network for next year, we are collecting feedback to help us plan as we remain hopeful that we will be able to continue with this opportunity. Your input on this brief feedback form will be greatly appreciated as we plan for the future with optimism.
Missed a session? No worries! The Iowa School Counselor Network series is well underway for 2024–2025, offering valuable opportunities for professional growth and connection. Each session highlights best practices, timely updates, and practical resources to support your work as a school counselor.
Many sessions also feature counselors sharing their own work and experiences—including the April session focused on collaboration!

Training for all Educators Supporting Learners with Disabilities will be held in Des Moines June 5-6, 2025, and registration is now open.
The Teaching for Impact training is for educators to develop and expand knowledge and skills related to the education of learners with disabilities from birth to age 21. Training will be centered around academics, college and career readiness, early childhood, school-based behavioral health, and support for student success. Emphasis will be placed on integrating information into practice across a variety of educational settings. Sessions will include examples of the content in practice as well as suggestions for classroom application. Participants will have the opportunity to share emerging ideas and network with one another.
School administrators, building leadership teams, Early ACCESS providers and service coordinators, educators and providers from early childhood to high school, AEA professionals and higher education faculty supporting pre-service educators and providers will all benefit from the training.
We are also pleased to announce, Leading for Impact: Workshop for Administrators, a new opportunity specifically designed for district and building school administrators who support special education services and supports! While this workshop will be at the same time and location as Teaching for Impact, the topics will be unique for administrators. District leaders will have opportunities woven throughout the two-day event to learn and work alongside peers to strengthen their district’s provision of special education services.

The opportunity to provide feedback on Iowa's proposed four-year Perkins V State Plan, which outlines administrative and financial activities for career and technical education programs, is now open. Comments will be collected via two public hearings, email and mail through April 24, 2025.
Work-based learning has and will continue to play an important role in career and technical education and is referenced often in the proposed state plan. Please be sure to review and provide any feedback to ensure we have the best possible plan and supports in place for you, your districts and students.

Quick reminder that we posted a new resource last month that serves as a collection of questions, comments and other feedback we received during the WBL Coding & Reporting Support webinar regarding recent changes to the definition of “work-based learning” (WBL), the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) state plan and the new Postsecondary Readiness Index (PSRI) measure within the Iowa School Performance Profiles (ISPP). Questions have been organized as closely as possible to common themes or topics. Please review and reach out with any additional questions or requests for clarification. A similar FAQ resource is currently being developed for Industry-Recognized Credentials (IRCs).
