Building Bridges Community Forum

The Iowa Department of Human Rights' Office on the Status of African Americans and the Commission on the Status of African Americans is hosting "Building Bridges", a community forum where attendees will discuss the myths, beliefs, and cultural differences to unifying Africans & African Americans, people of African descent, and the diaspora.

People's Law Library 

The People’s Law Library of Iowa provides Iowans with an easy-to-understand, basic information website about the law. Users do not need to have prior knowledge of law or legal topics to use this resource. Users can access video explanations of some topics, as well as navigation and training videos for how to best use the website for free.

Free Summer Meals for Youth 18 and Under

Summer Meal Meet-Ups is a program offering free and nutritious meals to anyone ages 18 and under throughout the summer.  Meal sites in Iowa are located at schools, parks, or other organizations, and site sponsors – or hosts – are approved by the Iowa Department of Education.  These meal sites will provide activities, educational opportunities, and a free meal for anyone up to age 18.  No registration or sign up is required.  For more information and locations,  visit these websites:

Disaster Assistance

Governor Kim Reynolds has issued disaster proclamations for a number of counties in response to severe weather, mostly recently for Pocahontas County. The proclamations activate the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Program for eligible households, as well as Iowa Disaster Case Management for the affected counties.

Program information, deadlines, grant application, and instructions are available on the Iowa Department of Health & Human Services website at https://dhs.iowa.gov/disaster-assistance-programs.  Applications can be turned in to a local Community Action Agency.  Go to https://humanrights.iowa.gov/dcaa/where-apply to find your local agency. For the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Grant program information call toll-free 1-877-347-5678.
