Disaster Assistance Programs

Governor Kim Reynolds has issued disaster proclamations for a number of counties in response to severe weather beginning March 31, 2023. The proclamations activate the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Program for eligible households, as well as Iowa Disaster Case Management for the affected counties.

The Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Program offers grants to families whose household’s annual income is at 200% or less of the federal poverty level. Each qualifying household MAY receive up to $5,000.00.  Grants are available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses. Original receipts are required for those seeking reimbursement for actual expenses related to storm recovery.

Program information, deadlines, grant application, and instructions are available on the Iowa Department of Health & Human Services website at https://dhs.iowa.gov/disaster-assistance-programs.  Applications can be turned in to a local Community Action Agency.  Go to https://humanrights.iowa.gov/dcaa/where-apply to find your local agency. For the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Grant program information call toll-free 1-877-347-5678.

Disaster Case Management is available to all that have been affected by the severe weather.  Disaster case managers work with clients to create a disaster recovery plan and access to resources. There are no income eligibility requirements for Disaster Case Management, and Disaster Case Management provides no direct financial assistance.
