We’ve cleared the second legislative funnel, a procedural deadline which most legislation must clear in order to remain active. Four weeks ago I provided a list of legislation we are monitoring and that survived the first funnel, so it only makes sense to do the same for the second funnel. You can access this document here.
Also, with the second funnel, most committees will wrap things up for the session as work on policy bills begins to wind down and focus shifts to the appropriations bills. The notable exceptions here are the appropriations and ways and means committees in both Chambers, and any Senate committees that need to conclude work related to the confirmation of Governor appointees.
This week the Senate introduced several appropriations bills, including the education appropriations bill in Senate Study Bill 1212. While they do not include specific appropriation amounts, the bills provide a shell for the agreed-upon funding totals to be amended into at a later date. The bills also appear to reflect the changes to be enacted by Senate File 514, the Governor’s government alignment bill. Much more to come on this front over the coming weeks.
The House and Senate will return on Monday afternoon. As alluded to, committee work will be relatively light, and we’ll watch for floor debate calendars to see which legislation will come up for a vote in the Chambers.
