Latino College Access Network (Latinos CAN)
With the 2023-2024 FAFSA form now available, now is a good time to look at some resources to help students succeed in their postsecondary education.
The Latinos College Access Network is a statewide initiative that strives to improve access to higher education and help students improve and achieve their educational and career aspirations through Latinos CAN goals; empower and equip Latinos; educate and support Iowa’s educational systems on Latino students strengths and needs; and impact policy changes within Latinos CAN and in Iowa’s educational systems.
The Iowa Department of Human Rights and its partners developed resources that include include a Guide to Iowa’s Educational System for Latino Students and Families, FAFSA videos, FAFSA roadmaps, scholarship database, data dashboard, asset map, and more.

2022 Refugee Summit - Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa
Join the Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa for the 2022 Refugee Summit. The summit will offer community partners tools and resources to better serve the increase in arrivals coming to Iowa from Afghanistan, Ukraine, as well as other countries through regular refugee resettlement. Deaf or Hard of Hearing Indicator on License/ID
If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can request a hearing status indicator ("deaf" or "hard of hearing") on your driver's license or ID Card. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, if you choose to add this to your license or ID, it will also be visible in the database used by law enforcement to lookup a driver’s information during a traffic stop. This information may help officers better understand a customer’s behavior if they appear to be non‐responsive to verbal questions due to their hearing status, resulting in a more successful interaction with a deaf or hard-of-hearing individual. This is a voluntary indicator and is not a restriction of driving privileges. Visit the Iowa Department of Transportation website for information and a video with American Sign Language on customer services for Iowans who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The State Library of Iowa and its partners have launched an online legal resource (PeoplesLawIowa.org) for Iowans to easily understand laws specific to Iowa. The website includes information on legal topics such as consumer law, family law, and landlord/tenant law, as well as guidance on researching legal issues, and more. Some examples of topics include:
Consumer Law - Learn more about buying and owning a home, paying for utilities (like gas and electricity), buying and owning a vehicle, debtor/creditor law, student loans, protecting your identity, and small claims court.
Family Law - Learn more about changing your name and legal identity changes, paternity, custody & visition, child support, parental rights, foster care & adoption, guardianship, emancipation, marriage, and divorce.
Landlord/Tenant - Learn more about renting a home in Iowa, including discrimination in housing, leases, property conditions and repairs, evictions, mobile homes, and public and subsidized housing.
