Legislative Update for 05/13/2022
The Legislature gaveled in and out twice this week without conducting any floor work. Fun Friday Fact: “For procedural reasons under the Iowa Constitution, the two chambers need to continue to hold gavel-in, gavel-out sessions on a regular basis until final adjournment (“Neither house shall, without the consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days”)” (Iowa Legislative News Service, volume 58, bulletin #87). Three bills were signed into law (as of Thursday evening), though not bills we have been tracking this session.
That’s it! That’s the update for this week. From what I’m reading and hearing, discussions behind the scenes are on-going and the Legislature will continue to conduct minimal work until these discussions wrap-up. We’re also seeing other obligations starting to compete for the time and attention of legislators, including the June primaries and planting season.
So, we will wait and watch… and enjoy the sudden onset of summer. Please reach out with any questions.
