News & Updates

A Note from the Executive Director

Hello all,

In this newsletter you will read about the IBON launching their very own podcast as a new way to deliver information and content to some of the state's busiest people! The Board and staff hope you will tune in often to learn about all things IBON, information about the Iowa Nurse Assistance Program, licensing details, nursing education and continuing education, and so much more. Take a listen at your earliest convenience.

You will also see the release of a follow up analysis of the comments received during the demand survey conducted in 2020 by the IBON and the Iowa Center for Nursing Workforce in conjunction with the Iowa Workforce Development Labor Market Information Division. The executive summary provides some additional insight regarding what healthcare employers said about nurse staffing during the COVID-19 Pandemic response.

Another exciting project on the horizon is the launch of a project in partnership with the Area Education Agency. Used as a recruiting tool for students in kindergarten through grade 12, they will soon be able to access an informational module of all things nursing. Watch for more information about that project in next month's issue of News You Can Use.

As a reminder, if you have not sent in your fingerprint cards and waiver as required for initial licensure and endorsement, please do so immediately. Before sending in the cards and waiver make sure they are filled in accurately or they will be returned to you.

Renew your license if you have not done so based on the past Proclamations. You do not want your job interrupted by working on an inactive license.

Continuing education is now required for anyone renewing their license. Remember you are subject to a random audit verifying compliance.

It is important you do not find yourself with an inactive license. The Board staff is here to help if you have questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Kathy Weinberg, Executive Director

Nursing "Sound" Reports icon

Iowa Board of Nursing Launches a Podcast!

Nursing report is a critical part of a nurse’s day. Receiving report is the way nurses learn about their patients or clients and how that report is received can make or break good patient outcomes. Reports may be delivered by word of mouth, through a written report, by standing in a huddle at the nurses’ station, or by rounding at the patient’s bedside. As a play on words: A “sound” report, also means a thorough and reliable report that gives the details, lays the foundation and sets the course of a nurse’s day.

All that said, the purpose of the IBON’s podcast is to share information that nurses might normally receive in written format, but delivered in “sound” format. Sound factual information about the Board and its mission will be provided to guide nurses in topics of education, licensure, disciplinary and workforce matters. Any stories told will be based on fictional situations so as to maintain the privacy of each and every nurse we serve. Nurses are busy people. The goal is to provide information whereby a nurse can listen to the content, wherever they are.

Board staff plans to offer at least one episode per month and they can be accessed on computers, iPhones, or Android phones. The podcast is hosted on the Podbean platform but you can find the podcast by searching on Google, Amazon, Apple, and Spotify.
