A Note from the Executive Director
Hello all,
I hope this note finds you all well and safe.
I am writing this note to encourage you to please read the following message and memo concerning the Governor’s Proclamation and those licensing relief measures which have not been extended.
If you have not sent in your fingerprint cards and waiver as required for initial licensure and endorsement, please do so immediately. Before sending in the cards and waiver make sure they are filled in accurately or they will be returned to you.
Renew your license if you have not done so based on the past Proclamations. You do not want your job interrupted by working on an inactive license.
Continuing education is now required for anyone renewing their license. Remember you are subject to a random audit verifying compliance.
It is important you do not find yourself with an inactive license. The Board staff is here to help if you have questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Kathy Weinberg, Executive Director
COVID-19 Emergency Proclamation Update
In light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Governor Kim Reynolds has issued multiple Proclamations suspending certain regulatory provisions in an effort to provide additional necessary resources and measures to respond to the public health disaster emergency. On July 23, 2021, Governor Reynolds issued a new Proclamation that did not extend the suspension of rules that affect professional licensing boards, including the Board of Nursing. See the following memorandum to learn about the guidance issued by the Board to outline resuming compliance with previously suspended rules:
Resuming Compliance with Rules No Longer Suspended by Proclamation of Disaster Emergency
Scam Calls Reported
Recent reports from licensees indicate that scam phone calls are being placed which appear to be from the Board's main phone line (515.281.3255), but are not from Board staff. The scam caller tells the licensee that they work for the Board and that the FBI is investigating the licensee regarding drugs found in Texas. When pressed for his name, the caller gave a name of "David Raymond" before hanging up.
Scammers can use a computer to make it look like the Board's number. There is not much we can do to stop these calls other than to let our licensees know that these have been occurring.
Thank you to Board Member - BJ Hoffman
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a sincere thank you to board member BJ Hoffman for his service to the Iowa Board of Nursing (IBON). Mr. Hoffman has served on the board since 2017 representing the public. BJ has resigned his position on the Board to pursue other professional opportunities.
As a board member BJ represented the public’s view in carrying out the mission of the Board. He also has been involved in many of the IBON's initiatives and guiding the IBON in making regulatory decisions in the midst of a Pandemic.
Please join me in thanking BJ for his commitment to the Iowa Board of Nursing and wishing him the very best in his new endeavors.
Kathy Weinberg

Tip of the Week
Question:
What does primary state of residence (PSOR) mean?
Answer:
For compact purposes, PSOR is not related to property ownership in a given state. It is about your legal residency status. Everyone has legal documents such as a driver’s license, voter’s card, federal income tax return, military form no. 2058, or W2 form from the PSOR. If a nurse’s PSOR is a compact state, that nurse may be eligible for a multistate (compact) license. If a nurse cannot declare a compact state as their PSOR, that nurse is not eligible for a compact license. They may apply for a single state license in any state where they wish to practice.
For more information about the Nurse Licensure Compact, see this link on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing website: https://www.ncsbn.org/nurse-licensure-compact.htm
