July 2020Caregiving in the US 2020 The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) and AARP presented the following image with updated trends in their research. The study showed that more than one in five Americans are family caregivers. As well as, family caregivers are in worse health than they were five years ago. CAPABLE Grant In today's environment, home is where the health is. To support safety at home, Falls Prevention programming needs to address the fact that falls are happening outside of health care facilities. With the ACL 2020 Empowering Communities to Reduce Falls Risk Grant, Iowa will work to help low-income seniors age safely in their own homes. The Iowa Department on Aging will be working collaboratively with other partners, to implement CAPABLE program pilots developed to keep seniors safe at home. June 15th was World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and was celebrated across Iowa by lighting up different buildings and monuments in the color purple. Senior Medicare Patrol Warns of COVID-19 FraudThe National Council on Aging has put out an article talking about how the Senior Medicare Patrol has been receiving complaints.
