FCCLA Emblem

Career and technical student organizations create a high-quality program and are an integral part of classroom instruction. Perkins V places an increased emphasis on the use of CTSOs and the Iowa CTE Bureau is planning a series of CTSO Advisor Bootcamps to help you as you work to incorporate FCCLA into your programming.

2020 virtual academies are open to all interested educators and administrators. In addition to the Iowa CTSO kickoff general session that will be held August 6th, there will be a virtual specific CTSO instructor academy for each service area.  We will have a range of activities, including introduction to a great new leadership curriculum from CCFCS, a phased approach to incorporating FCCLA, National CTSO representatives answering questions, and more! Be on the lookout for more information on how to sign up for this excellent professional development opportunity!

Extraordinary Educational Opportunity for Extraordinary Times

Don’t Miss the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Virtual Conference - June 25-26, 2020

The world has changed and so have we. With the changing landscape, never before has a gathering of the entire professional community been more timely, accessible and affordable.

Now, with so many summer educational conferences postponed, AAFCS is welcoming all professionals to participate in the 2020 AAFCS Virtual Conference via Zoom, on June 25 and 26, to take advantage of numerous opportunities for professional development. The conference will gather family and consumer sciences professionals in research, teaching, Extension and administrators of higher education to connect and share best practices to help pioneer the solutions to challenges facing individuals, families and communities.

You won’t want to miss the Opening Session with a panel of experts addressing, “Impact from COVID-19: How it’s highlighting the value of the People-Centered Sciences.” Plus, there are many breakout sessions on relevant topics “at your fingertips” (or at least via key strokes on your computer).

You can skip the extraneous expenses for travel and guestrooms and take advantage of the $100 registration rate. Students pay only $25 to participate in this event. And, there is even more good news! You will not have to choose between sessions offered at the same time. You can attend all sessions on your own time and at your own pace for 12 months after the conference and earn PDUs.

You can learn more about the educational sessions here. For more information contact sandrade@aafcs.org

Thank YOU!

As I finish this last newsletter, I am so excited for FCS in Iowa!  We have a great group of educators and leaders in FCS and CTE.  Iowa is well-positioned as you work to be even a stronger force in CTE programming across the state.  Katy Blatnick-Gagne' is the perfect person to continue moving us in the right direction with her knowledge, passion and commitment to Family and Consumer Sciences and career and technical education!

I wish you all well, especially those of you who like me are retiring.  Please don't forget the FCS Educator pipeline is shrinking!  We all have a duty to encourage more students to consider the great career we have made for ourselves! I wouldn't change a thing I have done since graduating from Iowa State University with my Home Economics Education degree!
