CACFP Menu with Best Practices

CACFP Menu with Best Practices

Iowa’s CACFP Menu with Best Practices has been updated! All recipes link to the Child Nutrition Recipe Box for childcare, from the Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN). These kid-friendly recipes are standardized to provide updated crediting information for easy menu planning. They also include recipes made with legumes, whole grains, and/or dark green, red, and/or orange vegetables. Recipes are for 25-50 servings (Centers) or 6 servings (Homes).

Home Sponsor Training Success Stories

Two Home Sponsors have had great success with offering  CACFP Meal Pattern Requirements training to their home providers, with a $800 sub-grant from the Bureau of Nutrition and Health Services.

  • Tammy Herbert with Community Action Agency of Siouxland introduced providers to new recipes, such as breakfast burritos and banana chips, and also taught them how to involve the children in meal preparation.
  • Becky Carlin with Upper Des Moines Opportunity, INC. taught providers how to use the CACFP Shopper App and provided kitchen scales, serving utensils for family style dining, and nutrition education tools for children.

Additional home provider trainings are underway! Home Sponsors can contact christine.crow@iowa.gov to apply for the $800 sub-grant to train providers, due May 30, 2020.
