Iowa State University Extension Releases Series of Elementary Lesson Plans
The 109-page curriculum consists of an 8-page user guide that includes a scope and sequence of four lessons for each grade kindergarten through 5th. Each short lesson provides an overview of the lesson’s agenda, purpose, objectives, needed preparation, vocabulary and the Iowa financial literacy standard(s) it addresses. A lesson’s teaching guide offers guidance for the lesson warm-up, main activity, wrap-up and reflection, ideas for extension of the lesson, and home talk with parents or guardians. Worksheets and graphics are included with lessons. Most lessons feature reading and discussion of a storybook as the main activity. The curriculum user guide acknowledges the support of the Iowa Insurance Division which made the project possible. All materials are available at no charge and can be downloaded by grade level or as an entire K-5 curriculum. The Financial Literacy Lesson Plans (K-5 grades) are posted on the ISU Extension Store here.
