Make Your Voice Heard! Be Voter Ready!

SOS

Be Voter Ready for the November 6 election.

A voting Iowan is an Iowan empowered to influence and create change in the government, and voting is as easy as registering to vote,
preparing for Election Day, and casting your ballot.

Step 1: Register to vote. You can do this online, through the mail, or at the polls on Election Day.

Step 2: Prepare for election day by making a voting plan. Decide if you would like to request an absentee ballot or look up your polling place. Keep in mind, that for elections held in 2018, pre‐registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification OR sign an Oath of
Identification at their polling place before receiving and casting a regular ballot.

Step 3: Cast your ballot. Iowans have three options for casting their ballot – absentee by mail, in‐person absentee at your County Auditor’s Office or a satellite voting location, or on Election
Day at your assigned polling place. No eligible voter will be turned away from the polls!

If you are registered to vote in Iowa and do not have a valid Iowa driver’s license or Iowa non‐operator’s ID, a Voter ID card will be sent to you free of charge. If you did not receive a card, or need a replacement card, contact your County Auditor as soon as possible.

For more tips on becoming Voter Ready, including advice for college students and absentee voters, visit the Secretary of State's website at  or Facebook page.

Vacancies on the Iowa Commission of Latino Affairs

Do you - or someone you know - have an interest in improving access to opportunities for the Latino community in Iowa?

State law requires most boards and commissions be balanced according to gender and political affiliation. Geographical location and diversity is also considered. Appointments are made to most boards and commissions annually. All applications are kept on file as public information.

Boards and commissions are responsible for advising the Governor and Lt. Governor, the legislature and state agencies. The Governor and Lt. Governor are looking for qualified applicants who are strong believers in becoming an active voice in state government.

If you are interested in volunteering to serve in the Iowa Commission of Latino Affairs, fill out an online application for consideration by the Governor and Lt. Governor.

The Iowa commission of Latino Affairs gets to:

  • Coordinate, assist, and cooperate with the efforts of state departments and agencies to serve the needs of Latino persons in the fields of education, employment, health, housing, welfare, and recreation.
  • Develop, coordinate, and assist other public organizations which serve Latino persons. Evaluate existing programs and proposed legislation affecting Latino persons, and propose new programs.
  • Stimulate public awareness of the problems of Latino persons by conducting a program of public education and encouraging the governor and the general assembly to develop programs to deal with these problems.
  • Conduct training programs for Latino persons to enable them to assume leadership positions on the community level.
