CRUDE OIL TRENDING UPWARD

DES MOINES – The price of crude oil on the West Texas Intermediate rose $1.79 this week and is currently at $70.66 per barrel. Brent crude oil rose $2.33, currently priced at $79.54 per barrel.

Crude Oil Summary

The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $1.79 per barrel over last week, and is currently priced at $70.66.

Brent crude oil rose $2.33 and is currently priced at $79.54.

One year ago WTI crude sold for $48.23 and Brent crude was at $55.06.

Motor Fuels

As of Tuesday, September 11, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.70 across Iowa according to AAA. This is $.01 lower than last week and $.17 higher than one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $2.84, holding steady at last week’s price.

Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa were $.01 higher than last week’s price with a statewide average of $3.12. One year ago diesel prices averaged $2.64 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price is $.06 less than the national average of $3.18.

Wholesale ethanol prices were down $.03 from last week’s price, currently at $1.29.

The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.07 for U87-E10, $2.29 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $2.35, ULSD#1 is at $2.54, and E-70 is priced at $1.62 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

Natural Gas prices fell $.07 at the Henry Hub reporting site and ended the week at $2.89/MMbtu.

Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
