Have you heard of 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count?
5-2-1-0 is Iowa’s childhood obesity prevention program that focuses on the importance of four simple daily health habits:
- 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables
- 2 hours or less of screen time (television, computer, video games, phones, etc.)
- 1 hour or more of physical activity
- 0 (or reduce) sugar-sweetened beverages - drink more water!
What YOU do makes a difference! The time that children spend at childcare centers can be a time when they are more active and eat more healthy foods. Free 5-2-1-0 materials for your center, parents, and staff are available at the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative.
The Iowa Medical Society has created a 5-2-1-0 parent toolkit with lots of great information for parents about healthy behaviors. Come hear more on October 30th at the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count Summit in Des Moines. Local communities from across the state will share how they are incorporating 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count message into schools, daycare settings, healthcare clinics and communities.
